Happy Mount into Our World
The saying minor reclusive life lies in the mountains, popular reclusion actually lies in the markets, and the greatest recluse in public. Reclusion is an ideal of life, and art cannot exist in a vacuum, so in other words: delicate beauty is in nature; popular beauty is in the markets, and greatest beauty is civilization. The greatest beauty is both measurable and non measurable, such that forms are limitless, a mixture of perspectives between Confusion: "things are never even" juxtaposed against Daolism:"things are all equal", by the difference and synthesis between the two schools.
The inspiration of this exhibition traces back to 2021 when I first visited Happy mount and their resident artist. I could tell that the residents wanted to speak to me, but they could not. But I could see in their drawings and paintings they have so much to say. So we decided to organise a charity auction and print sales. Each artwork has its own beauty, and such beauty transcends borders, my collectors from different continents are all touched by such purity of expression. Commercial artists are never completely free from market forces, however happy mount residents are free of such shackles, since the concept of market is incomprehensible to them, for us such a state of creation is an inconceivable luxury.
I hope through this exhibition, by sharing happy mount residents' work, its greatness is not measured by the market, but as a gift to us all. By focusing on the gifts given to us, we are all wealthy.
