你想跟我說關於你最近生活的什麼事?
Why are you dressed like that? How do you feel about your baby teeth not falling out? What did you have for breakfast? What is the name of the bird in the painting? Is the sword you're holding heavy?
This exhibition showcases creations by children between the ages of five and twelve. During this stage, children are undergoing significant physical and mental development. This period is crucial for their understanding of art and aesthetic judgment. Since one of the first things children draw is a "person," expressing themselves through an "artistic self-portrait" over the course of about three months allows viewers to ask the children: What is happening in this painting? What did you see that made you say that? What else can we find in your drawing?
The founder of "Wumi Art Dream", said : "The best way to gain the most from art is by using the 'inquiry method', asking open-ended questions, and accompanying the children in expressing their thoughts through art. In the creative process, I work with the children as friends in the studio, helping each other to bring ideas into the artwork."
There is no single correct answer, nor is there right or wrong. From the initial sketch to the final artwork, the goal is to ensure that the children feel their answers are understood. We exhibit their sketches alongside the finished pieces, capturing their struggles, joys, and even the moments of bewilderment when imagining the colors and materials. Through the most genuine creations, we can better appreciate that the results of art do not need to be defined as good or bad.
As the founder of Wumi said:"When children come here, all the mischief is dealt with in the moment. We solve problems like mature humans, and these challenges even become the nourishment for creation. There's nothing so serious that it requires contacting the parents and adding to the child's troubles after they go home."
